Curious about the best way to cook wild game? Want to sharpen your target practice skills? Never picked up a gun, and want to learn best techniques?

This Edible Outdoors class is a great opportunity for anyone from the beginning student to the avid hunter. We will have amazing instructors to help you feel comfortable or to learn new target skills.

Esteemed chef Chris Grebner will share different cooking techniques for wild game. After all the fun, we will try some delicious tastes! 

Location

The class is held at the beautiful Highland Hideaway Hunting at Riverside, Iowa.

Registration

Class fee: $25. Register for the event

Please register soon: the class is limited to 15 people and is likely to fill up fast.

What to Bring

Please wear standard outdoor attire that allows you to get a little dirty.

Guns will be provided for target practice, but feel free to bring your own gun.

Instructors

Chris Grebner is the owner and chef at Provender Catering & Events and the Farmer’s Table. He graduated with honors from Le Cordon Bleu Portland's Culinary Arts program, which emphasizes French cooking techniques using modern technology. He loves coming up with memorable and delicious ways to cook wild game and foraged foods.

Phil Bourjaily is the shotgun columnist for Field & Stream and Ducks Unlimited magazines. He is also a certified trap and sporting clays instructor and has coached the Iowa City Westside Trap Club, a local youth team, for the past eight years. He is an Iowa City native and an avid hunter, cooker and eater of wild game.

Rick Frees is a life long Johnson County resident. 25 years as an IDNR certified hunter education instructor, also a NRA Range Safety Officer. Avid upland bird hunter and two time Iowa State Sporting Clays Champion. Proud owner of a wonderful English Springer Spaniel, Pistol Pete.

David Giese works with IDNR Shooting Sports, is a range safety officer, hunter education instructor, NRA Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun Instructor, 4-H Shooting Instructor and also coaches the West High Trap Team (Scholastic clay target program Coach and Scholastic pistol program Coach). He also volunteers with the Boy Scouts of America, Delta Waterfowl, Pheasants Forever, and Ducks Unlimited
